I’ve gone on a mini eBay selling spree in the last few weeks. I sold two Apple TVs (we had 3 – and we really only need one now), and my old Mac Pro. It went for $270 – not bad for an 8 year old system. I netted $536 and some change in the last two weeks.
I’ve also listed some of our living room furniture on craigslist and sold it pretty quickly. I have pictures of the treadmill and other toys of Daughter Person’s to put up on craigslist, I just haven’t gotten them up yet.
If I do accept the position in Pittsburgh, we’ll definitely be getting rid of more things. I may use the move as a “clean slate” and only pull things out of boxes when I want to use them, then donate the rest after a year. Need to clear that plan through Dad first though 🙂
I always want to sell stuff on eBay or Cragislist but it is so time consuming to list everything properly… Then take pictures…
I take pictures with my cell phone and post using apps. The pictures are not as good as they could be with my ‘real’ camera, but they do the job 🙂
I didn’t know your possible destination was Pittsburgh! I’m originally from there and think it’s a secret gem, especially these days. Best of luck with the decluttering.
It’s a possibility – I’d be working in Oakland, and Dad is eyeing a position in Fox Chapel. We’d be looking in O’Hara township or up 279 as places to live likely. I took Dad around the various neighborhoods close to CMU (Swissvale, Squirrel Hill, Regent Square, Shadyside, Point Breeze) to see what there is to see and if anything struck us as attractive – Regent Square was the most attractive, but it’s elementary school isn’t so great. I should hear back on Friday about an offer then we’ll have to make a decision.
I love selling on craigslist! I had a garage sale this summer and got rid of tons of stuff, but there is ALWAYS more. My kids are constantly outgrowing toys and clothes.
I tried a garage sale once – I do so much better by just donating Daughter Person’s clothes. The time and hassle of holding a garage sale doesn’t make up for it – and I can “get” more money back in taxes than I’d get with a garage sale. I tend to only sell “high value” items on eBay/Craigslist and either give away or donate everything else. Next up to get listed is a treadmill and exercise bike!
